Yarra Valley Balloon Festival

The Yarra Valley Balloon Festival 2015.

Yarra Valley Balloon Festival

I was invited by Yarra Ranges Tourism to attend the inaugural Yarra Valley Balloon Festival at the Yarra Valley Racing Club. Following immediately on from the Cox Plate Day race meeting, the event kicked off with a (ticketed) cocktail party with scenic views overlooking the track. Other highlights of the event included.

  • a parachute jump display Yarra Valley Ballon Festival
  • build your own lanterns for the first 200 children
  • free children’s activities
  • fireworks to conclude the evening
  • Vintage Plane Fly-by & Acrobatic display
  • Yarra Glen CFA Demonstration

The absolute highlight of the evening was the coordinated balloon night glow. Thirteen hot air balloons all lit up at once on the racing track. It was a spectacular sight.

The balloons were majestic and magnificent.

This was a two day festival and Sunday morning saw the balloons launch and take in scenic flights across the Yarra Valley.

It was a great night and if you were not sure about attending this year, then I can recommend you do give it a try next year.

Yarra Valley Regional Food Group Farmers Market

This is part two of my visit to the Yarra Valley as a guest of the Yarra Valley Regional Food Group. It involves Shannon Bennet in a red helicopter, life-changing wine, expansive vistas and doughnuts.

I love visiting gorgeous farmers markets in and around Melbourne. I recently posted a list of my favourite markets in my local area. Now I have a new one to add. The original Granddaddy of all markets (and still as fresh as ever) the Yarra Valley Regional Food Group Farmers Market.

Held in the grounds of beautiful Yering Station, and partially housed in a large barn to make it all-weather friendly, this market has a great selection of local products and produce. It is also extremely picturesque and you will love wandering around the property and just taking in those gorgeous views. Continue reading

Chef Jessie Crossley is a local Melbourne girl who has been off to see the world and then come home to share what she knows at her new cooking school in Lilydale. Jessie has opened Locavore Studio in Lilydale, the Gateway to the stunning Yarra Valley. Locavore is a cooking school set in a beautiful studio. I recently visited as a guest of the Yarra Valley Food Group.

We were there to take a Yarra Valley themed cooking lesson and Jessie charmed us all from the moment we arrived with a tray of sparkling white wine and a tour around her cooking school.

She quickly got down to business and took us through the process of cooking four dishes based around the beautiful Yarra Valley produce that she had available. Continue reading
