UPDATE 2018

Limestone Gallery Cafe is sadly now closed.

Port Fairy has a vibrant and thriving arts scene and a great way to experience what it has to offer is by visiting the Limestone Gallery and Cafe.

Limestone Gallery and Cafe Port Fairy

Limestone Gallery and Cafe is a little gem on the outskirts of town in Port Fairy. A passion project of artist in residence Meg Finnegan, this is a great place to view a selection of art from local artists, and then enjoy a bite of lunch or a walk in the garden when you are done.

We visited Limestone Gallery and Cafe on one of those in between kind of days where the sun is shining and the wind is wailing. It was lovely to sit inside at the cafe and take in the gorgeous views outside. It was also really lovely to meet owner and artist in residence Meg Finnegan to chat about all things good in Port Fairy.

Meg specialises in sculpture and is an artist turned lab technician turned artist once more. She feels that there has been a resurgence in the creation of hand crafted items and slow techniques in response to our ongoing love affair with technology. The gallery itself is a reflection of this as Meg has lovingly renovated an old brick veneer house into this modern looking gallery, while retaining one simple, exposed brick wall as a reminder of what was once here.

The cafe itself takes up one half of an open, light and bright building with views onto the garden and sculpture walk beyond. The gallery was opened 4 years ago but the cafe is a newer offering and has only been open since last December. They serve a variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch offerings including salads, pastas and pies.

On the day we visited the impressive reuben sandwich was on the menu.Limestone Gallery and Cafe Port Fairy

We also tried the chicken salad which made for a great light lunch.Limestone Gallery and Cafe Port Fairy

The Gallery displays pieces of work from local and surrounding artists, as well as the resident artist Meg.Limestone Gallery and Cafe Port Fairy

Visit for the beautiful selection of local arts and crafts and stay for a cup of tea or lunch and then head out to enjoy the gardens.

Happy Eating.
