The Full Pantry Store and Cafe Review

The Full Pantry Store and Cafe

By Amy

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a teacher in possession of a new curriculum is in want of a gigantic cup of tea.

Every so often in the life of a teacher there comes a time when the powers that be decide to change the entire VCE curriculum of a certain subject, requiring a huge overhaul of texts, teaching activities and teaching program.

While this is exciting as it means one has the opportunity to drink copious amounts of tea… I mean, to reassess long held practices and habits which can result in new and innovative teaching practices and encourages the sort of lifelong learning which, as a teacher, I am deeply passionate about; it can also mean long days of planning, reading, writing and deciphering curriculum documents. Recently, my colleagues and I faced such a challenge and so, all met together and spent a day pouring tea… I mean pouring over curriculum documents in order to create a new year’s worth of work for our future lovely year 12 students.

Now, deciding how best to fit 12 weeks of curriculum into 10 weeks plus student activity days, excursions and public holidays is hungry work and even though we were well supplied with tea (obviously), we still had to eat and by lunch time, our beautiful snacking platters of hummus, crudites, cheese and fruits weren’t quite cutting it anymore. It was time to break from our labour and partake in a ladies luncheon. Thankfully, we weren’t too far away from a new café attached to a wholefoods health store (cue sound of angels).

The Full Pantry in Ringwood has recently opened its new café serving an all day brunch with the healthy spin you would expect from such an establishment. They have a range of muesli options, the usual eggs+extras options, as well as some tempting sounding dishes of “Chai Spiced French Toast” and “Hash Brown Benedict” which will suit all tastes. I chose the Smoked Mushrooms dish with (perfectly) poached eggs instead of scrambled- a change they were happy to make.

In fact, there was no request too big or small for the lovely staff! They gave honest recommendations happily and even split the bill for our group. We were warned when we entered that there may be a bit of a wait for the meals as there was only one chef working, but any wait went unnoticed due, in part, to the excellent tea and coffee we partook in. The teas were supplied by High Tea by Harriot and my Moroccan Mint Tea was everything this tea snob expected and more.

We were also invited to explore the attached shop which will definitely require a follow up visit when my brain is less concerned about classic Australian literature and more occupied with the Great Australian Cookbook.

Overall, The Full Pantry left us well fed and watered and ready to continue our marathon planning session. I look forward to my next visit, hopefully when I can take a bit more time to peruse the stock and linger over more of their delicious food… and teas.

Happy Eating!

Amy.
