Coffin Sally Port Fairy

Coffin Sally Port Fairy

Coffin Sally Port FairyWhen you take a weekend away in a beautiful, quiet, coastal location, it is not always possible to access the great dining options that are available in a big City.

But this does not happen when you visit Port Fairy.

Case in point is Coffin Sally which is owned and operated by Pete Charlton and serves great pizza that could easily rival Melbourne’s best.

With previous experience working at the much-loved Bottle of Milk and Pizza Pizza in Lorne, it is no surprise that Pete knows how to run a great eating house.

Not only is the food fantastic, but the building itself is a delight.Coffin Sally Port FairyCoffin Sally Port Fairy

After moving from Lorne to Port Fairy, Pete set himself the mammoth task of renovating an old 1840’s building into a gorgeous wine and pizza bar. He has definitely succeeded.Coffin Sally Port Fairy2016-08-18 20.43.57

Pizza oven and kitchen at the front, a bluestone fireplace and bar in the middle and a small outdoor beer garden. Just beyond is the spacious and impressive dining room that backs onto a laneway known as  “Coffin Ally.” Rumour has it that this is where the local undertaker once did his best work building coffin’s and is the source from which the restaurant takes its name.2016-08-18 20.45.48

Start with a drink from their extensive drinks list in the evocative stone lined bar and then move onto pizza. The menu features Shaw River Buffalo mozzarella and includes the “Prosciutto Pizza” ($18), the “Whoops a Daisy with goats cheese and roast pumpkin” ($16), the “Pear Blue” ($18) and 15 other options. Think olives with pips (the best way to serve them), leg ham, chewy thin bases and rich, napoli sauce. Excellent!Coffin Sally Port FairyCoffin Sally Port Fairy

Visit for the awesome ambiance and friendly service and stay for possibly the best Coastal pizza in Victoria.

Happy Eating!

  1. We are pit-stopping in Port Fairy when we head to Adelaide over the school holidays so I will be sure to try this place. It looks fabulous, those pizzas look like the ones we ate in Italy. ❤️
