The Yellow Deli Katoomba
I recently went on a mid-Winter holiday to NSW. We took a beautiful and simple drive up through the mountains to visit the Three Sisters and while we were there we stopped for lunch at The Yellow Deli in Katoomba.
One glance through the front window of this “tree-house” cafe and we knew we wanted to eat there. So did everyone else apparently so we were invited to wait awhile propped up under a heater on one of the outdoor tables until an indoor table became available. If the swirling fog and surrounding views were not enough to keep us happy, we were also offered a warming cup of hot apple cider while we waited. After a brief and enjoyable wait we were shown to our table “I think joy for this family.”
Yes this is not your average cafe and the tables/ nooks at the Yellow Deli cafe and separated out into areas with names.
The menu consists of sandwiches (The Reuben, The Yellow Submarine), soup of the day. Salads, All day breakfast and a lovely and extensive selection of drinks, teas and smoothies. We opted for the fresh green mate latte, another hot apple cider and a mango smoothie. The mate tea was delicious and is also reported to have a great range of health benefits.
The prices at The Yellow Deli Katoomba were very reasonable and the service was zen-like calm and helpful.
It would be remiss of me not to mention that this cafe is apparently run by some kind of local commune and their story is painted in murals on the wall. I absolutely loved our visit and so did my whole family. The food was simple, homestyle fare with a healthy twist but it was very tasty. The cafe itself was an extraordinary hobbit-ish treehouse with macrame decorations, an open fire, lots of carved timber and painted murals.
Visit for the warm atmosphere and hearty, healthy food and stay for the unique service.
Happy Eating.
Dani

It looks fantastic. I shall keep that one in mind if I’m ever up the Blue Mountains 😃
